Marlene McNamara

Marlene McNamara (Farris) passed peacefully in her sleep at her home, on Jan. 26, 2018, in Trona, Calif. She was 67.

Marlene was born in March 1950 in Snyder, Okla., to her parents, Elbert and Oralea Farris. She moved to California and married Brian McNamara in 1972. The McNamaras made their home in Trona where Marlene worked for the Trona Unified School District for 35 years. She retired in 2015 and dedicated her remaining time to being a nana to her grandbabies and a loving wife to her husband.

Marlene was a patient and supportive mother and grandmother. She always made sure that everyone she loved knew it. She was a ray of sunshine, and always had a smile for everyone she met. She had a heart of gold and never hesitated to open her home to anyone who needed it.

Marlene is survived by her husband Brian; son Brian II and daughter-in-law Andrea of Houston, Texas; son, Patrick (PJ) and daughter-in-law Katie of Bakersfield; daughter Amanda of Trona; brother, Kenneth Farris and wife Linda of Fort Worth, Texas; grandchildren, Patrick, Tighe and Alaira; sisters-in-law Naomia, Sandra and Louise; brothers-in-law Marty and Tim McNamara of Ridgecrest; and multiple nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Elbert and Oralea Farris; brothers Melvin, Marion and David Farris; her sister Marie Denham; and her grandson, Roan McNamara.

Services for Marlene will be Saturday, Feb. 3, at 10 a.m. in the Trona High School auditorium, with a potluck reception to follow at the Trona Senior Center. There will be a private viewing for family and close friends at the First Baptist Church in Trona on Friday, Feb. 2, from 5-8 p.m.
