College to host appearance by comedian-actor-writerCERRO COSO COMMUNITY COLLEGE — Greg Edwards, known for his distinctive voice, one-liners, awkward views and social commentary, will speak at Cerro Coso on Thursday, Feb. 8, at 6:45 p.m. in the College Library.

A comedian and actor widely famous for his appearance in the YouTube web series Thug Notes, Greg stars as “Sparky Sweets PhD” whose self-styled “gangster” approach to education is bringing books like “Jane Eyre” and “To Kill a Mockingbird” to new audiences. Sparky Sweets PhD invites his viewers to join him as he gives the lowdown on the great and the good of literature, urging his Twitter followers to, “Educate yo’self, son”, by using his Thug Notes.

Dr. Sweets delivers literary summaries and analysis in his “original gangster” style, in a way that he hopes will both entertain book nerds and educate and enlighten those who aren’t into their literature.

Greg’s stand-up performances throughout the West Coast has earned him accolades like the Dan Crawford Award from the San Francisco Punchline in 2009. He has worked with Dave Chappelle, Paul Mooney, Patrice O’Neal, Damon Wayans, Bill Burr, Charlie Murphy, Maria Bamford, Jim Jeffries, Harland Williams, Bill Bellamy, Deon Cole, W. Kamau Bell and many more outstanding comedians.

He’s has performed at Jamie Foxx’s Laffapolloza, SF SketchFest, SF Burrito & Comedy Fest and Riot LA.

A fearless comedian from the state of Virginia, Greg currently resides in Los Angeles and hosts the monthly comedy show “Blame Social Media” at the Hollywood Improv Lab.

The event is free and open to the public and parking permits are not required.
