Dr. H. Wade Swinford

Dr. H. Wade SwinfordDr. H. Wade Swinford, a Ridgecrest resident for more than 46 years, went home to be with the Lord on Jan. 18, 2018, peacefully in his home. He was 76 yrs old.

Born to George and Audrey Swinford on Oct 24, 1941, in Juliet, Ill., he had two younger siblings, Marge Rey and Douglas Swinford.

Wade graduated from Valparaiso University with an undergraduate degree in electrical engineering. He went on to the University of Arizona, where he received a Ph.D in 1971.

He reported to China Lake Naval Weapons Center in 1971, working for the Department of Defense as an electrical engineer for 36 years.

He received the Technical Director’s Award in 1973, along with many other citations and achievements along the way. Wade helped many people to advance their careers by teaching classes for 21 yrs at both CSUN and Cerro Coso Community College.

He was very active with multiple churches in the community throughout the years. He led many Bible studies including a Monday night study for more than 20 yrs, eventually becoming an associate pastor with the Foursquare Church here in Ridgecrest.

Wade had not onlya passion to study the Bible, but also a mission to spread its good news and help others to learn and understand the Bible.

Wade was a wonderful grandfather, always giving all his grandchildren and great-grandchildren personal attention. He was always there to help with math or science projects. He loved astronomy and taking out his telescope for his kids, grandkids and even neighborhood kids to learn about the stars.

He is survived by his wife of more than 25 yrs, Vicki Swinford ;his children, first-born son Scott and wife Jennifer, son Jeff and wife Jill, daughter Carrie Bond, youngest son Doug Swinford, stepdaughter Tina Meldahl, and stepdaughter Lisa Quinonez and her husband Tony. Wade has 16 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

He is proceeded in death by his parents and his stepson, James Meldahl II. A memorial service will be held at RCA Church, 800 W. Upjohn Ave, on Feb. 9 at 1 p.m. A Celebration of Life Reception will follow the service. Scott Siddle will officiate.
