Aaron Kirschenman

Longtime Ridgecrest small-business owner Aaron Kirschenman passed away in the early hours of Dec. 31, 2017, from natural causes. Aaron was 97 years old.

Born in Alpena, S.D., Aaron was the son of Karl and Rosina Kirschenman and the brother to 12 siblings. Aaron joined the Army and was promoted to the rank of section sergeant in charge of three mortar squads. He participated in three major campaigns in Italy during WWII. He received several medals during his tour of service including the Legion of Merit medal for valor and the Purple Heart for injuries sustained on the battlefield.

After serving in WWII, Aaron settled in Arvin, Calif., and married his sweetheart Margaret Summerford (now deceased). Together, Aaron and Margaret had two boys; Karl Lewis (deceased) and Kenneth Aaron. Aaron and Margaret raised their family on a farm outside of Arvin, eventually moving from Arvin to Inyokern, where he lived for more than 50 years.

Aaron and Margaret loved the individuals and families of the Indian Wells Valley and owned several businesses in the area. Some of their businesses include the Texaco gas station and Automotive Repair Facility (formerly the Douglas gas station) and Kirschenman’s Water Well Drilling, serving the water fulfillment needs of the Indian Wells Valley for over 40 years.

Aaron also worked for several years for the Bank of America, where one of his duties was to respectfully raise and lower the American and state of California flags every business day, which he considered a great honor to perform.

During his retirement years, he enjoyed spending time with his friends at the Moose Lodge, the Eagles Lodge, the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the American Legion, where he made many friends and learned to shoot a damn good game of pool.

Aaron is survived by his son Kenneth Aaron Kirschenman and wife Diane; his grandchildren, Karl Aaron and his wife Karen, Rebecca Gerard, Michelle Kirschenman, Kenneth Howard Kirschenman and his wife Amy, Jenna Kirschenman, Jeffrey Kirschenman and his wife Cherie; his great-grandchildren Damon Bradley, Maryah Turner and husband Scott Turner, Caitlyn Owens, Justin Park, Jordan Park, Madison Thomas, Dylan Thomas, Christian Greenfield, Kenna Kirschenman, Dakota Gerard, Dillon Gerard, Fiona Kirschenman, and Garrett Kirschenman; and his great-great-grandchild Scott Turner.

No memorial services are planned. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you give charitable donation in Aaron Kirschenman’s name to the Ridgecrest chapters of either the American Legion located at 641 W. Inyokern Rd, Ridgecrest, CA 93555 or the VFW located at 117 N Alvord St, Ridgecrest, CA 93555.
