Officers of the Ridgecrest Police Department arrested a 19-year-old assault suspect on Thursday, Jan. 20, at the local Motel 6.

Officers responded to the assault call around 10 p.m. where they discovered two victims of the alleged assault by Stephan Matthew Bitz. The victims claimed that Bitz forced his way into the motel room, believing his girlfriend was inside, and began fighting one of the victims.

Bitz reportedly grabbed the victim around the throat and struck his head against a refrigerator, then bit the second victim, who tried to separate Bitz and the initial victim.

The suspect is facing two misdemeanor battery charges, and his bail is set at $10,000. His pretrial conference is set for Tuesday, Jan. 30, 10:30 a.m. in Ridgecrest.
