Police responded to a reported hit-and-run last Friday, then arrested 37-year-old Ridgecrest resident Jesus Navarrete-Cardenas.

According to the Ridgecrest Police Department report, officers responded to the traffic collision in the 100 block of South China Lake Boulevard at 2 p.m. on Jan. 21. Two witnesses followed the suspected vehicle, a 2015 Chevrolet Camaro, after it came to a stop farther down the road from the accident.

Officers detained Navarrete-Cardenas, who appeared to have sustained minor injuries. They issued field sobriety tests where they determined that he was over the intoxication limit. They arrested him on the scene.

During the booking process, officers reportedly found a “usable amount” of methamphetamine and cocaine on the suspect, concealed in dollar bills.

In addition to felony hit-and-run with injury and driving under the influence, he was charged with bringing controlled substances into the jail facilities.

Navarrete-Cardenas was booked in the Bakersfield Central Receiving Facility. At press time court and bail information was unavailable.
