STOMP comes to Ridgecrest

NAVAL AIR WEAPONS STATION CHINA LAKE — A Specialized Training of Military Parents will be held Friday and Saturday, Jan. 26-27, at the One Three Nine Center on Balsam Street.

“Do you have a child with any special needs, or think that you may be beginning the process soon?” asked a spokesperson.

“STOMP, a parent-directed program, exists to empower parents, individuals with disabilities and service providers with knowledge, skills, and resources so that they might access services to create a collaborative environment for family and professional partnerships without regard to geographic location.”

All community members are welcome to attend. Training will include an overview with programs like Individuals with Disabilities Education Act, Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act, Supplemental Security Income, Medicaid, Individualized Educa-tion Program and 504, wills and guardianship, insurance, and advocacy.

STOMP provides information about parent rights and responsibilities in achieving special education services.

The program is open to all military and all community members! Registration is required and is open until the class is full. Partial attendance is allowed, but topics are not repeated. There is no cost to participate in this event.
