Second Women’s March planned Sunday

Second Women’s March planned SundayRidgecrest United, in conjunction with the 2018 Women’s March in Las Vegas and sister marches across the country, will host the local march Sunday, Jan. 21, starting at 12:30 p.m. at Petroglyph Park.

“Last January the first Women’s March became a worldwide protest advocating legislation and policies regarding women’s rights and other human rights issues,” said a spokesperson of Ridgecrest United, the group that formed out of last year’s demonstration.

“The theme of this year’s march is ‘Hear Our Vote!’ and is focused on encouraging voter registration across the country.”

This year’s rally will include addresses from Mayor Peggy Breeden and members of the American Association of University Women, Desert Area Teachers Association, High Desert Democratic Club and more.

The event will include fundraising for the local domestic violence and rape crisis center, the Women’s Center-High Desert, Inc. Receipts will be available for tax purposes.

“Everyone is invited to join these family-friendly, nonpartisan events,” said the spokesperson.
