John W. Douglas

John W. DouglasThe Lord called John W. Douglas home early Saturday morning, Dec. 30, 2017. John passed away peacefully with family at his bedside.

Services will be held Thursday, Jan. 18, at His Place Community Church in Burlington. John’s family will have a celebration of life at a later date to remember and celebrate Dad’s life.

John was born June 16, 1938, in Coalhill, Ark., to John Bart Douglas and Marie Douglas. In 1939 John moved with his mother and father to Randsburg, where his father went to work in the gold mines. A short time later John’s little brother Bob was born. John and Bob were best friends their entire life. They grew up in his beloved town of Inyokern, attending Inyokern Elementary School.

John graduated in June 1956 from Burroughs High School. He married Frances, and their son Michael was born in 1959. John married Sue Douglas in 1966, and they later celebrated more than 48 years of marriage. They had three children, Johnny in 1967, Della in 1968 and Bart in 1970.

John served his country in the U.S. Army from 1962 to 1964. John was a lineman for the phone company for 50 years. He lived and worked in various towns, mostly Gardnerville, Nev., Ridgecrest and most recently 42 years in Burlington, Wash.

In retirement John enjoyed being a volunteer delivering meals on wheels to seniors in the Burlington area. John loved his home in Washington. The most recent two-and-a-half years he loved being a snowbird spending winters in Reno, Nev., and Bullhead, Ariz. Two of his adventures were attending Hot August Nights Hot Rods show in Reno, Nev., and attending a NASCAR race at Phoenix Raceway with his son Bart. He loved spending time at the family’s camp lot, fishing, NASCAR (Sprint cars were a favorite), motorcycles and cars.

John loved spending time with his five grandchildren, who all held a special place in his heart. John also loved spending time and taking trips with his brother Bob, his lifelong best friend.

John was preceded in death by his father, John Bart Douglas; mother, Marie Douglas, and cousin, John Ray Douglas. He is survived by his sons Michael (Loren), Johnny and Bart (Kristy); daughter Della (Scott); ex-wife Sue Douglas; five grandchildren Justin, Lexie, Logan, Brittany and Taylor; brother Bob (Diantha); nieces, nephews, cousins; the Clodt family; Frank “Butch” Harrison; Sharakay Bokeko and many lifelong friends. Dad was witty and kind and had a nature about him which allowed perfect strangers to gravitate toward him.

He loved everyone unconditionally and with his whole heart. He will be greatly missed. “Grief only exists where love first lived, and you were so very loved.”

Until we see you again and you welcome us with your special way. We love you, Dad!
