Maturango to host Quarteto Nuevo Jan. 20

Maturango to host Quarteto Nuevo Jan. 20The Maturango Museum will continue its concert series with a performance by Los Angeles-based Quarteto Nuevo on Saturday, Jan. 20, at 7 p.m. in the Coso Gallery.

“Hear Quarteto Nuevo merge western classical, eastern European folk, Latin and jazz with an organic feel that packs a wallop,” said a spokesperson. “The ensemble’s razor-sharp precision is enhanced by jazzy interludes, lightly rumbling percussion motifs and mesmerizing rhythms. They effectively meld the music of ancient worlds and faraway places with a contemporary groove that enchants audiences of all ages!”

Winners of the Beverly Hills National Auditions, Quarteto’s master musicians create emotionally charged soundscapes with instruments and sensibilities that represent very different world cultures. The ensemble includes Damon Zick on soprano saxophone and alto flute, Jacob Szekely on cello, Kenton Youngstrom on guitar and Felipe Fraga on hand percussion. Together they create a unique sound of rich colors in their repertoire, which ranges from Hector Villa-Lobos’ “Bachianas Brasileiras” to Chick Corea’s “Children’s Song No. 6” to the traditional Macedonian “Gadjarsko,” as well as original works.

“Please join us for this outstanding concert.”

Seats are abundant, but early purchase is encouraged. Tickets are $20 for general admission and $5 for 12 and younger and are available in the museum store and online at
