Carjacking suspect  arrested Tues.Officers of the Ridgecrest Police Department responded to a carjacking at Eastridge Market Tuesday evening just after 10 p.m. After a brief investigation, they arrested suspect Jesus Valdez, 43.

According to the press release, officers received a call from the victim that Valdez had assaulted her and then stolen her belongings and vehicle. As officers arrived at the market where a witness confirmed the victim’s story, Valdez returned in the alleged stolen vehicle, parked it and quickly drove away in his own white Honda.

Officer John Bartlett later identified Valdez’s vehicle and initiated a traffic stop where he arrested Valdez without further incident. The victim’s purse and cell phone were recovered in the arrest.

Valdez is charged with robbery, carjacking, grand theft and spousal battery. At press time, no court or bail information was available.
