Barbara Cole

Barbara ColeBarbara Ann Cole, age 87, passed away Dec. 17, 2017, surrounded by family and close friends.

Services will be held at the First Baptist Church, 1350 S. Downs St., on Saturday, Jan. 13, at 11 a.m., officiated by Pastor Jim Hammett. The eulogy will be given by Jim Hammett.

Barbara was born in Brooklyn, N.Y., on Aug. 23, 1930, to Alfred Harry Staud and Madeline Theresa Staud. In 1946 the family moved to the Naval Ordnance Test Station, China Lake, where she later married Roy Dale Cole. She often said that marrying Roy was the smartest thing that she ever did.

Barbara was proud of being part of the early days of the base and the community it fostered. She attended Bakersfield College and Fresno State University. Barbara loved the color violet, so much so, that she occasionally sported bright violet-colored lipstick. Even in her failing health, Barbara remained close to her church, First Baptist, and to Pastor Jim Hammett.

Barbara was preceded in death by her husband of 59 years. She is survived by a daughter, Elizabeth Cole of Minden, Nev.; a sister, Susan Howell of Eagle, Idaho; and her sister’s children, Joe and Lori, and Lori’s daughter Isabella.

A special thanks to Palmdale Regional Medical Center. Their professionalism and compassion while caring for Barbara were a comfort for the family.
