Lisa K. Pelzl

Lisa K. PelzlThe Lord called Lisa Kaye (Johnson) Pelzl home Nov. 16, 2017.

Lisa was born in the little town of Troy, Mo., on Aug. 12, 1959, when the family lived in O’Fallon and her father worked for McDonnell Aircraft.

Her time on this earth was shorter than her family and friends would have liked but we know she’s with the Lord. She loved gives us comfort.

She leaves behind her adored daughter, Christina, and son-in-law, Nik Gerstenschlager; her grandsons, Sebastian and Finley Gerstenschlager; her mother, Peggy Johnson; her sister and her brother-in-law, Lori and Dave Wilson; and her brother and sister-in-law, Stuart and Joan Johnson. Her nieces and nephews, Daniel Wilson, Sarah Bermingham, Katie O’Gara, Erin Johnson, Alex Johnson and Lauren Walsh also grieve her loss as she was a real presence in their young lives, and they were recipients of all the love she could give them. She also leaves her beloved Uncle Jug (Gerald) and Aunt Barb, and Uncle Ed Lemons, her former husband, Frank Pelzl and many, many dear friends.

Lisa lived in Ridgecrest since she was two years old through her adulthood and always thought of Ridgecrest as “home” no matter where she traveled. And travel she did, to Canada, England (at least three times!), France, Italy and Mexico. The family liked to travel as a “pack” and made many trips to Missouri, Oregon, Washington, Minnesota and Washington, DC, on cruise ships and houseboats, and just plain camping, with Camp Pendleton being one of her favorite sites.

Lisa lived in the Bay Area in the 1980s and loved the city but hated the traffic! She was married to Frank and had her daughter, Christina, while in the Bay Area before returning to Ridgecrest in 1990. Lisa worked for several local contractors before starting work for the government in 2001. Lisa worked primarily for the F/A-18 Advanced Weapons Laboratory where she was a business and financial manager before moving to the Contracts Department. She became the local government property manager before accepting a position with the Defense Contract Management Agency in Ottawa, Canada. She stayed in Canada for three years before returning to the U.S. for a position in Manassas Park, Va. This year she moved to Nashville, Tenn., to be closer to her daughter and help in the raising of her grandsons.

Lisa was very active in the National Contracts Management Association while in Ridgecrest, serving in several capacities before becoming president in 2004-05. Her other great love was children, and she was a Sunday school and vacation Bible school teacher for Immanuel Baptist Church for several years. She also was active in, and contributed to, many charities, as helping others was one of Lisa’s core values.

She was preceded in death by her father, Win Johnson, and her first grandchild, Lola.

There are no services planned at this time but as Lisa had a very charitable heart. If anyone wants to make a donation in her name to any charity that supports our troops either past or present, we’re sure she would smile down from above!
