Arthur Acencion Castillo

Arthur Acencion Castillo passed away on Nov. 29, 2017, at the Jerry L Pettis Memorial Veterans Hospital, Loma Linda, Calif.

Arthur was born May 26, 1949, in Santa Ana to Juan and Elvira Castillo. At an early age he moved to Trona with his parents and siblings.

Arthur attended the local schools in Trona, and upon graduation he enrolled in Bakersfield College before being inducted into the Armed Forces in June 1969. He served a tour of duty in Vietnam from Nov. 22, 1969, to July 23, 1970. He was honorably discharged on June 17, 1971, at the rank of sergeant, Army-AUS AMEDS, and was the recipient of several medals including two Purple Hearts.

He is survived by his wife Danmei; mother Elvira; son Anthony and wife Sherry; brother Louis; sisters, Rosalinda, Cynthia and Maria; grandchildren Rozlynn and Cynthia Jean; niece Tina Cecena and husband Miguel; niece Gina Evers; nephews Juan Arthur Castillo and Adrian Evers; and stepdaughter Chang Dong.

A memorial service will be held at the H.K. Holland Memorial Chapel, Ridgecrest, today, Dec. 15, at 10 a.m. with burial following the memorial at the Bakersfield National Cemetery, Arvin, at 2 p.m.

Arthur was preceded in death by his father Juan and brother John.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Disabled American Veterans(DAV) or the Purple Heart Foundation.
