Stephen J. Wersan

Stephen J. WersanStephen J. Wersan was born in New York, NY, on Jan. 22, 1933, and passed on Nov. 30, 2017, in Ridgecrest at Bella Sera after a stay at Ridgecrest Regional Hospital. He was a software engineer for many years on the base and enjoyed reading, writing poetry and playing Scrabble at which he was nearly unbeatable.

He self-published a collection of his poems called “Smooth Stones on the Bottom” and described himself as a “software engineer, problem solver, and poet.”

Trained as a civil engineer, he entered software engineering in the infancy of that profession. He was active in Ridge Writers, local drama productions, his synagogue (Temple Beth Torah, Indian Wells Valley Jewish Community Association), and puppet plays he created with Francine Wersan, his wife of 50 years.

He is survived by his daughters Laura Vergeront, Guru Meher Kuar Khalsa, Zoe Aquino, Elena Case, Ariel Litzky and Sarah Wersan, as well as numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Services will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Dec. 9, at the East Wing of the All Faith Chapel, China Lake. Everyone is welcome to attend and to bring stories to share about Steve.
