‘Christmas in Ridgecrest’ is Dec. 16The Desert Community Orchestra will hold its annual Christmas concert on Saturday, Dec. 16, at 7 p.m. in the Parker Performing Arts Center at Burroughs High School. Doors open for seating at 6 p.m.

This year’s performance, with a theme of “A Christmas in Ridgecrest,” will feature the Holiday Singers, a choir of Monroe Middle School and St. Ann’s students directed by Amber Petersen.

The orchestra’s selections will include works by Leroy Anderson, Chip Davis, John Williams, a world premier by Rick Lineback and more. A newly formed flute choir, the High Desert Pipers, will also play a select number of Christmas favorites. A final special feature of the concert will be the Suzuki Stings led by Carol Sue McKenzie and Shirley Helmick.

Conductor Robert Martinez has led the orchestra for 13 years. “The energy, humor, and jovial personality he brings to the stage sets the mood for the orchestra each time they perform,” said a spokesperson.

“Mr. Martinez promises it will be a must-see-must-hear family entertainment event.”

The maestro himself promises the concert “will include lots of magical holiday fun for the whole family. You don’t want to miss this one!”

General admission is $11, with a discounted price of $9 for students/seniors/military. Children younger than 7 and military personnel arriving in uniform will be admitted free.

Donations are greatly appreciated and assist in covering the many operating expenses associated with the orchestra.
