Police find drugs, stolen firearm during traffic stop

RIDGECREST POLICE DEPARTMENT — On Nov. 22 at 3:20 a.m., officers of the RPD conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle in the 1300 block of West Ridgecrest Boulevard. Officers identified the driver as Jose Leal, 32, of Bakersfield, who was on probation with search terms for stolen property.

Officers conducted a search of the vehicle and located a loaded firearm next to the driver’s seat. They also located suspected methamphetamine and marijuana. Because of the large amount of drugs, officers suspected that Leal was intending to sell them.

Leal is a convicted felon and is prohibited from possessing a firearm of ammunition. Officers also later learned that the firearm was stolen.

Leal was arrested and booked at the Central Receiving Facility in Bakersfield.
