Police collect donations for ‘Shop with a Cop’

Police collect donations for ‘Shop with a Cop’RIDGECREST POLICE DEPARTMENT — This year for the holidays, the Police Employees Association of Ridgecrest is teaming up with several local businesses to bring “Shop with a Cop” to our community.

The goal of Shop with a Cop is to provide a fun filled day for a number of children in need throughout Ridgecrest while creating positive relationships with law enforcement. This unique December shopping experience assists children and can deter them from choosing lives of crime of violence.

Officers will be paired up with children of families in need and will pick out gifts for the children and their families. Police officers are working with schools, Child Protective Services and other agencies to select children to benefit from the program.

“As of right now, we’ll be able to help about 15 kids, and we’re aiming for about $200 per child,” said Sgt. Bill Groves “We’re trying to reach out and get as many families as we can.”

The Police Employees Association is also seeking additional donations from those who would like to assist in this event.

“The more money we raise, we’ll just keep reaching out to more kids,” said Groves.

The event is scheduled for Dec. 16. If you have questions or would like to make a donation, contact the RPD by calling 760-499-5100, visiting the Ridgecrest Police Department Facebook page or emailing Groves at bgroves@ ridgecrest-ca.gov.
