Geraldine Regina Szczypiorski

Geraldine Regina Szczypiorski, 81, passed away on Oct. 31, 2017. She was born Oct. 2, 1936, in Philadelphia, Pa., to John and Martha Smith.

On Jan. 2, 1960, Geri married Bernard J. Szczypiorski. Shortly after they were married, Geri and Bernard “Ski” traveled across the states in a borrowed car to the West Coast where Ski was stationed in the Navy.

In 1970 they settled down in Ridgecrest. During the 46 years in Ridgecrest, Geri devoted her life to her family and to the church. Although she sold Avon for a number of years, her true passion was serving. She was a solid member of the All Faith Chapel and spent many years as the Eucharist minister five days a week for the daily mass.

She was preceded in death by her parents, sister Barbara Dillon, brother Marty Smith and her son, Michael Szczypiorski.

Geri is survived by her husband of 57 years, Bernard J. Szczypiorski; her children Kathryn Shindel (Kevin), Marie Zurn Kopp (Jeff), Bernie Szczypiorski (Sondra), and Gina Szczypiorski; her siblings Pat Tarlo, Marie Bowers and Debbie Grizzanti; her grandchildren Elizabeth Shindel, Kevin Shindel II, Emily Shindel, Shyloh Steele, Cheyanne Zurn, Gordon Zurn IV, Ashley Aguilar, Stephen Szczypiorski, Andrew Szczypiorski, Annalisa Szczypiorski and Michael Guy; and her great-grandchildren William Barger, Elise Leidy, Luke Buckley, Makhi Oakley, Ava Zurn, Remington Steele, Madysen, Evangeline, and Mateo Aguilar, Miranda Walters, Greyson Wilmont, and Izabella Szczypiorski.

Catholic funeral mass will be held on Saturday, Nov. 11, at Our Lady of the Desert Catholic Church, China Lake. Viewing will begin at 10 a.m. following with an 11 a.m. Mass. The reception will be in the East Wing at noon and burial will be at 1:30 p.m.
