NAWS public scoping mtg. is Tuesday

NAWS public scoping mtg. is TuesdayNAVAL AIR WEAPONS STATION CHINA LAKE — The Navy will hold a public scoping meeting Tuesday, Nov. 14, to provide information and an opportunity for the public to comment on the environmental assessment for testing, evaluation and training activities at the Cuddeback Range.

The meeting will be held from 6-8 p.m. in the Pinnacles Room of the Kerr McGee Center.

Navy representatives will be available to provide information and answer questions. Written comments will be accepted throughout the scoping meeting.

The Navy is preparing an environmental assessment to analyze the potential environmental impacts associated with expanding naval weapons research, development, acquisition, testing and evaluation at the former Air Force Cuddeback Air-Ground Gunnery Range, now part of the China Lake range complex.

As part of the 2015 and 2016 National Defense Authorization Acts, approximately 33,096 acres of land, including the former gunnery range, were withdrawn on behalf of the Navy. This land withdrawal would support the Navy’s mission to provide and maintain land, facilities and other assets that support test and evaluation of cutting-edge weapons systems for use by service members during deployment.

Comments must be postmarked or e-mailed by Dec. 4 for consideration in the development of the Draft EA. Comments may be submitted to margo.allen@navy.mil or
