Students have until Nov. 27 to apply for Elks scholarship

Ridgecrest Elks Lodge announced that the deadline for the Elks National Foundation Most Valuable Student Scholarship Contest is Wednesday, Nov. 27.

According to a spokesperson the competition for 500 four-year scholarships begins at the local level before advancing to regional, state and national categories.

“Our local lodge will award $500 to the first-place winner, in addition to about $2,500 in cash awards to other competitors,” said Jan Bennett of Ridgecrest Elks Lodge No. 1913.

Eligibility is open to students in the graduating class of of 2018 or equivalent, who are citizens of the United States and residents within the jurisdiction of the B.P.O. Elks of the U.S.A. Criteria includes financial need, leadership, community involvement, and academics.

Applicants must have taken the SAT or ACT test before Nov. 4. Applications may be downloaded at enf.elks.org/mvs and will be submitted online.
