Suver to address Democratic Club

The Democratic Club of the High Desert will meet Saturday, Oct. 21, at noon at Charlie’s in the Clarion Inn.

“The club is honored to announce that our guest speaker will be Jim Suver, CEO of Ridgecrest Regional Hospital,” said a spokesperson. “Mr. Suver will present an update of the ever-growing services offered by the hospital as supported by the organization’s motto: Personally We Care, Professionally We Serve.”

RRH has experienced significant expansion under Suver’s leadership, said a spokesperson. The hospital has 35 full-time active physicians on its medical staff, up from 19 in 2009.

Over the last six years, RRH has invested $105 million in terms of equipment and buildings. Its net assets are worth $78 million (up from $49.8 million in 2009). It has 818 employees and a payroll of $48 million a year.

“However, Mr. Suver believes that the changes to the hospital over the past 10 years are less about what happens inside the acute care walls but more about what happens outside the community,” said the spokesperson.

“Our community hospital is always just one pen stroke away from going from profitability to probably a loss of $10 million a month, depending on the replacement to the Affordable Care Act,” Suver said at the 2017 IWV Economic Outlook Conference.

In addition to an update on RRH’s progress, Suver will offer some observations on the current state and national discourse regarding health care.

The public is invited. There is no admission fee. Attendees are responsible for purchasing their own food and beverages.
