De Maeyer-Kende duo to perform here MondayThe Ridgecrest Chamber Music Society concert series kicks off Monday, Oct. 9, with violinist Jolente De Maeyer and pianist Nikolaas Kende, who will perform at 7 p.m. at the Ridgecrest Presbyterian Church.

The program will include music by Felix Mendelssohn (Sonata in F Minor), Franz Schubert (Sonata in A Major) and Ludwig van Beethoven (Sonata No. 9, Opus 47 “Kreutzer”).

De Maeyer studied at the Yehudi Menuhin School in London and has performed as a soloist with the Brussels Philharmonic, the Royal Flemish Philharmonic and other major international orchestras. In 2003 De Maeyer and Nikolaas Kende formed a duo.

In 2017 De Maeyer was named outstanding young artist by Belgian National Radio for her recording of the Beethoven Kreutzer Sonata with Kende.

Kende participated in Holland’s Queen Elisabeth Competition in 2007, and concerts have taken him to festivals and halls around Europe and in the Dutch Antilles. Kende’s American debut (in California and Texas) in 2009 received favorable reviews and was followed by another American tour in 2013, which included a well-received concert with de Maeyer in Blanco, Texas.

As a soloist, Kende has performed concertos with orchestras including the Brussels Philharmonic, the Orchestre Royal de Chambre de Wallonie, the Royal Flemish Philharmonic and the Flanders Symphony Orchestra. Kende is an avid chamber musician and was a cofounder of the Rubens Ensemble in 2007. He is professor of piano at the Royal Conservatoire of Antwerp in Belgium.

The De Maeyer-Kende Duo will present school programs on Tuesday, Oct. 10.
