First responders pull victim from 395 crash

First responders pull victim from 395 crashFirst responders work for nearly two hours to free a man trapped in a vehicle after a collision with a semi-truck last Friday. Multiple agencies, including Kern County and China Lake fire departments and the California Highway Patrol, attended the scene. Although officials started an ongoing investigation of the incident, initial reports indicate that the driver of a sedan was attempting to turn onto Athel in Inyokern from Highway 395. The driver of the truck, apparently unaware of the other driver’s intent to turn, attempted to pass the driver on the left. Officials speculated that the driver of the semi realized the turn attempt mid-pass, and skidded off the road to the left as he tried to avoid collision. The driver of the car, unable to prevent the crash, ended up getting wedged beneath the truck. He was air-lifted to Kern Medical Center, where he was subsequently treated and released. -- Photo by Laura Austin
