Flu vaccine clinics offered

KERN COUNTY PUBLIC HEALTH SERVICES DEPT. — Flu vaccine clinics will be held in Ridgecrest on Thursday, Oct. 26 and Nov. 16, from 10:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. at the local public health office, 400 N. China Lake Blvd.

Flu shots will be offered for $9 each. Walk-ins are welcome.

“Flu season is upon us, and we invite residents to take advantage of these low-cost options to protect themselves and their loved ones from the flu,” said Matt Constantine, director of KCPHSD.

“The flu can be a serious disease that can lead to hospitalization and sometimes even death,” said a spokesperson from the department.

“The flu vaccine is the first and best way to protect against the flu.”

Although anyone can potentially get sick, those at higher risk for serious complications include young children, pregnant women, adults 65 and older and anyone with chronic health conditions such as asthma or diabetes.

In addition to an annual flu vaccination, public health officials also recommend the following actions to reduce spread of infection:

• Stay home when you’re sick

• Cover a cough or sneeze with a tissue and properly dispose of the used tissue

• Wash your hands thoroughly with soap and warm water or an alcohol-based hand sanitizer

• Avoid touching your eyes, nose and mouth
