Emergency personnel responded to a traffic collision in the early hours of Thursday, Sept. 7, at the intersection of Bowman Road and Highway 395.

According to authorities, the driver of a Freightliner headed southbound on the highway struck a Ford F-150 truck approaching from Bowman, killing one of its passengers, Lance Raymond Hunter, 56, of Ridgecrest.

According to the California Highway Patrol release, the driver of the F-150, an unnamed Ridgecrest resident, failed to stop at the Bowman Road stop sign when he was struck by the truck driver. The F-150 overturned into the shoulder, and much of the Freightliner’s cargo spilled into the roadway.

The truck driver sustained moderate injuries to his hand and the driver of the F-150 was transported to Antelope Valley Hospital for major head trauma. Hunter succumbed to his injuries at the scene. The collision is still under investigation.
