Police arrested a Ridgecrest man for using a false receipt to steal three TVs from Walmart on Tuesday. Suspect Robert Kane, 24, was arrested the same day at his residence where the TVs were located.

According to a Ridgecrest Police Department press release, Walmart notified the police around 2:45 p.m. on Sept. 5 that a customer left the store with the TVs while employees were questioning him about his false receipt. Kane reportedly wheeled the TVs out to his car, which employees described to the police.

Officers located the vehicle in the 1000 block of South Forest Knoll Street, Kane’s residence, where they conducted a probation search of his property and were able to locate and return the TVs.

The department also learned that Kane had forged a false check in his deceased grandfather’s name last month to get his dog from the Ridgecrest Animal Shelter.

Kane was booked at the Kern County Jail in Bakersfield and is charged with theft and check fraud/forgery. At press time, bail and court information was not available.
