RPD announces citizen academy

The Ridgecrest Police Department is now accepting applications for the 2017 Citizens’ Police Academy.

The nine-week program is designed to give members of the community an inside look at local law enforcement. During the academy, students will be introduced to an overview of RPD’s functions and operational procedures.

Graduates are encouraged to continue their involvement by becoming volunteers in Police and Community Together and/or the Community Emergency Response Team.

Classes begin Wednesday, Sept. 20, and are held from 6-8:30 p.m. weekly. Enrollment is limited to 20 students. Potential candidates must meet the following eligibility requirements:

• Must be a minimum of 18 years of age

• Must live or work in the IWV

• Must have no felony convictions

• Must have had no serious misdemeanor convictions in the last five years

Applications will be accepted through Friday, Aug. 18.
