Walter C. Smith

Walter Smith, 82, passed away May 22, 2017.

Walter was born in Boise, Idaho, where he met Rene, his wife of 60 years. He graduated from University of Idaho with a degree in Engineering. Walter has lived in Ridgecrest and China Lake (off an on) for 45 years. He worked in the Fuse department at Salt Wells where he was very proud of his role in developing the devices for various missile systems.

Walter is survived by his wife Rene, his daughters Deborah and husband Steve Ball, Julia and husband Ed Carlin, grandchildren Chris and Davia Ball, Delainey and Sean Carlin and 2 great grandchildren.

He was a loving husband as well as a devoted father and grandfather. Most of all, he was an inventor. Walt created many patents. He was an active member of Grace Lutheran church where he served as an usher and all around helper. He will be missed by many.

Services will be held late June.
