Geneva ‘Jill’ Lutz Cooper

Geneva “Jill” Lutz Cooper of Ridgecrest, California passed away on Friday, April 21, 2017 at the age of 88 years old. She was born on August 24, 1928 in San Luis Obispo, California to Samuel and Marion Lutz.

Jill was raised in San Jose, California and graduated from San Jose High School and San Jose State with a degree in Liberal Arts and earned her teaching credential. She taught for 12 years in Castroville, San Jose and Atascadero. In 1955, she married the love of her life William Cooper and they settled in San Luis Obispo where their first son William was born. In 1960, their family moved to Ridgecrest where they soon welcomed two more sons, Richard and David followed by a daughter Katie.

She treasured the time staying at home while her kids were young. She was active in the Girls Scouts, volunteered at St. Michaels Episcopal Church, and was active with the Daughters of the Eastern Star. After her children were grown she went back to work as a Security Specialist for the Department of Defense.

Jill’s mission in life was loving and caring for her large family, who were always first in her life. She is predeceased by both of her parents and her brother Richard Lutz. She is survived by her husband of 61 years William “Bill” Cooper. Her children William “Bill” Cooper and his wife Petra, Richard “Rick” Cooper and his wife Kim, David Cooper and his wife Laura, and Katie Lapidus. Her beloved grandchildren: Rick Cooper, Samantha Whalen, Sophia Lapidus, Elizabeth and Liam Cooper, and two great-granddaughters Emma and Katelynn.

A private memorial service will be held at a later date. Donations can be made in Jill’s name to the Daughter’s of the Eastern Star.
