Faller family recognized during Memorial Day

Faller family recognized during Memorial DayCmdr. Matthew Conliffe, executive officer of the Naval Air Weapons Station China Lake, meets with the family of Lt. Cmdr. Theodore H. Faller during Monday’s Memorial Day Ceremony, hosted by American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars at the Desert Memorial Park. Conliffe delivered the keynote address, where he honored Faller’s sacrifice during his tour at China Lake. On Aug. 13, 1979, Faller’s QF-86 Sabre suffered an engine failure just moments after takeoff. Rather than ejecting, which could have threatened civilian lives on the ground, he lost his life while guiding his aircraft to a vacant lot just south of Ridgecrest Heights Elementary School, later renamed in his honor. -- Photo by Laura Austin
