Arminda Cook

Arminda Cook Arminda E. Cook was born Feb. 10, 1939, in Montemorelos, Mexico. When she was 7, she moved to Mercedes, Texas. She met her true love, Dale Cook, and moved to Lemoore, where they were married. They later moved to Trona, and then Ridgecrest in 1969.

Our wonderful Mom went to be with her loving lord God and family on May 15, 2017. She was and is loved by many.

She is deeply missed by her sons, Steven R. Cook and wife Jenise Mason and Dewain W. Cook and wife Barbara; grandchildren, Tony Ernest, Brandon Ernest, Rachel Cook, Dale Cook, John Daly Jr, Jerimiah Cook, Nathaniel Cook, and Alexander Cook of Ridgecrest; sisters, Ofelia Arredondo of Lemoore and Mary Presas Huston, Texas; and many nephews and nieces.

Her mom and dad, along with two brothers and husband Dale (who worked at Contel before it was Verizon before Frontier) all passed and met her to lead her though the gates of heaven.

Arminda worked at the Neighborhood Market and the Kern County Courthouse as an interpreter. A few years later she worked at Sierra Sands Unified School District as a substitute teacher, and a supervisor in the cafeteria and playground.

After learning English, she earned her citizenship. She fully loved the United States. She would also voluntarily help Spanish-speaking people to learn English by holding little classes in her home. She loved all her family and was self-educated with a deep love of learning.

She was a great role model for her kids and grandkids.

She was a beacon in our dark times. She would talk to us and help us though like a ship in the storm. She was our lighthouse. She was very Christian-minded and loved God fully.

A celebration of life will be held today, May 26, at 10 a.m. at Crossroads Community Church. Dionne Salmonds will officiate. A potluck reception will follow.
