Young Artist concert is next Saturday

Young Artist concert  is next SaturdayThe Desert Community Orchestra will present a concert entitled “A Touch of Class 2017” on Saturday, April 29, at 7 p.m. at Burroughs High School’s Parker Performing Arts Center. The community is invited to come and enjoy this concert which will feature Emma Heflin and Clare Hatter, the winners of the Young Artist auditions which were held in February.

Emma Heflin, age 17 and a senior at Burroughs, will be the cello soloist playing “Kol Nidrei” by Max Bruch. Clare Hatter, age 20, will be the violin soloist playing the first movement of Mendelssohn’s Violin Concerto. The orchestra, under the direction of Robert Martinez, will accompany the young musicians in their performance.

The concert will also feature the orchestra in “Procession of the Nobles” by Rimsky-Korsakoff and Edvard Grieg’s Peer Gynt Suite No. 1. The winners of the Peter Pinto Memorial Scholarship will be recognized at the concert as well. “It promises to be an enjoyable concert highlighting our musically outstanding Ridgecrest youth.” said a spokesperson.

Tickets are available at Red Rock Books and at the door for $11 general admission and a reduced price for senior, military, and students.
