George A. Matusic

George A. MatusicGeorge A. Matusic, age 83, passed away peacefully on March 30, 2017, in the Acacia Guest Home, a caring and loving senior board and care in Diamond Bar.

He was born Feb. 1, 1934, in Greggs Station, Pa., to Albert and Herminia (Urbanek) Cossack. George first married Doris Ann Gorman, April 23, 1955. She passed on Oct. 23, 1986. He remarried on Sept. 26, 1987, to Diane Marlene Ohanlon, who passed on Feb. 27, 2008.

He served in the Air National Guard nearly 40 years, having enlisted in 1952. He retired in 1989 as chief master sargeant of the 222nd Combat Communications Squadron out of Costa Mesa.

George enjoyed bowling and golfing and relished performing splendidly at both. He was a devoted Steelers fan, loved Pirates baseball and had a very good sense of humor.

He is survived by his siblings, James Cossack and Cecilia Holeva, his daughters, Debra Burgwald and Patricia Kashou, his five grandchildren by Debra and Patricia, Cody Burgwald, Jessica, Brittney, Michel and George Kashou. He was likewise survived by two stepdaughters, Sharron Ferrell and Catheleen Melendez; five grandchildren by Sharron and Catheleen, Hilary Johnson, Alicia and Jason Ferrell, Aundrea Wonnacott and Katelyn Miles; and three great-grandchildren, Patrick Choate, and Luke and Abigail Wonnacott.

Funeral services will be held Friday, April 21, 2017, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Kilian Catholic Church in Mission Viejo. Burial will follow at Ascension Cemetery in Lake Forest.
