To the Editor: Mourns passing of friends

It is with melancholy and sadness that I share with their friends and acquaintances the passing of Brandi Williams and Lyal Viers.

Brandi Williams worked on the base many years before retiring and moving with her husband Jim to the Tulare area to be near her family. Jim preceded her in death some time ago. Brandi early in her career worked with me in the Budget Division, and because of her skill in administrative areas, she moved on to “bigger and better” jobs on the base. In addition to her having worked with me, she and Jim were very good friends to many including Carole and me. We remember fondly the many trips we took with them in their motor home to Mexico and the Northwest. Brandi loved to dance and only needed someone to take her to the dance floor so she could move to music like “Proud Mary.” She had some serious medical issues later in life which she accepted with dignity and grace.

Lyal Viers worked and lived here many years also. He was a manager much of his career. He and his wife Marilyn, who was a nurse, were good friends to many here and also moved north to a retirement community in Newberg, Ore. Lyal and Marilyn had been married for 68 years when he passed away recently. One of Lyal’s proud possessions was a car he bought new and drove for more than 600,00 miles before passing it on to his son. Both Brandi and Lyal will be dearly missed.
