The China Lake Astronomical Society will meet Monday, April 3, at 7:30 p.m. in the Maturango Museum for its monthly program. The club will hold its second star party of the year on Saturday, April 28.


1. Jupiter reaches opposition on April 7 and so will be an all night object almost all month. Look for it to rise in the southeast around sunset.

2. Venus moves to the morning sky this month where it will be visible in the east before the sun rises.

3. Saturn rises in the southeast at 1:30 a.m. on April 1 and 11:30 p.m. on April 30.

4. Mercury moves to the evening sky where it is visible low in the west for the first few days of the month.

5. Mars remains in the west this month where it sets in the west before 10 p.m.

6. Comet 41P is in Draco this month. Look for finder charts in Astronomy and Sky and Telescope magazines.
