Fong brings military caucus to China Lake
Assemblyman Vince Fong, the architect and co-chair of the recently assembled Military Instal-lation Caucus, brought California legislators with him to the Naval Air Weapons Station for the China Lake Air Show last weekend.
Other visitors included Senate Republican Leader Jean Fuller of Bakersfield, co-chair Assembly-man Tom Lackey of Lancaster and Assemblyman Jay Obernolte of Big Bear.
“I am very proud to represent the men and women of China Lake and to have the Blue Angels’ spectacular performance at the China Lake Air Show,” said Fong. “This was a successful first event for the Military Installation Caucus, and I am excited to facilitate more learning opportunities for our lawmakers.”
“Naval Air Weapons Station China Lake provides more than 6,500 jobs in east Kern County, added Lackey, who was accompanied by his son for the event. “The economic impact of military installations throughout California cannot be overstated.
Obernolte, who brought with him his wife Heather, said it was an honor to attend the performance and learn more about local contributions to defense.
“I had the opportunity to spend time with some of our servicemen and women, and it is clear that they take great pride in the work they do for our country.”
“I was excited to join the bipartisan Military Installation Caucus at its first event,” said Fuller, a frequent visitor to the area over her 12 years representing the Indian Wells Valley as a legislator.
“I believe it is important to promote China Lake and collaborate with other California military communities in the future.
“I commend my friend Assemblyman Vince Fong for spearheading this important effort.”
The caucus will continue to tour military installations throughout the state to learn about the important work that is occurring on these facilities and what they mean to the local community, state and country.
Currently the military installation caucus is made up of 17 members from both the Senate and the Assembly.
