John E. Heumann
John E. Heumann passed away on March 4, 2017, at the age of 84 in Ridgecrest, with his devoted and loving wife Genoveva by his side.
John was a senior materials R&D engineer, retiring in 1999 after nearly 30 years of working at the Navy facility at China Lake. He had a passion for research and development and worked previously for Lockheed, Rocketdyne and McDonnell Aircraft around the southern U.S. before settling down in Ridgecrest, having narrowed down his search to the Southwest for its dry climate and open land.
In Ridgecrest he he built his dream home for his family. He furthered his community involvement in the right-to-life movement as president of the American Life League of Indian Wells Valley for several years until a portending diagnosis.
John had a long two-year battle after a Stage IV nonoperable abdominal cancer diagnosis followed by neurological extremity deficits, lower extremity edema, a broken hip, and succumbing to the inevitable effects of cancer. A strong-willed man by virtue of dealing with esoteric difficulties since a young age, he was so used to battling that it took numerous afflictions to finally bring him to his earthly end.
His determined spirit lives on in his wife, son, daughter and six grandchildren. A 7th grandchild is due on his 85th birthday while he looks down on us from above.
Rosary for the first 30 minutes and visitation will start at 5 p.m. Thursday, March 9, at the H.K. Holland Memorial Chapel in Ridgecrest until 7 p.m. Funeral Mass will be held at 10 a.m., Friday, March 10, at St Ann’s Catholic Church followed by burial at Desert Memorial Park and a reception at St Ann’s Parish hall. In lieu of flowers, persons may consider donations to St. Ann’s Parish.
