Star Gazing: Star parties resume this month

The China Lake Astronomical Society will hold its first star party of the year on Friday, March 24, at its Brown Road site. Viewing will begin at 8 p.m.

March Celestial Calendar

1. Jupiter rises in the southeast about 9 p.m. at the beginning of the month and at about 8 p.m. by the end.

2. Venus and Mars continue as fine evening objects this month. Look for them in the west-southwest after the sun sets. Venus has passed eastern elongation and will rapidly drop lower in the sky every evening.

3. Saturn continues to rise in the southeast about 2 a.m. at the beginning of the month and 1 a.m. at the end of the month.

4. Mercury is hidden by the glare of the sun this month.
