Jerome Scott Smith
Jerome Scott Smith, 61, passed away on Monday, Feb. 6, 2017, after a battle with cancer. Scott was born on July 1, 1955, in Torrance and moved to Ridgecrest in 1956 with his family, where he was raised.
In 1976 Scott began a concrete, trucking and excavation company, J.S. Smith Construction, which he operated for 40 years. Most recently he was a partner in Sierra Trucking, and an equipment operator for CalTrans.
Scott loved his family and friends, and he worked and played hard. He enjoyed spending time with friends and family, and spent many hours at barbeques, swim parties, and in his garage. As a contractor in Ridgecrest for over 40 years, he could always point out a job that he’d done. Scott spent many hours camping; waterskiing and swimming at Lake Isabella, Lake Diaz, and the Colorado River; and exploring the desert in four- wheeled vehicles. He will be missed greatly by those who knew and loved him.
Scott was preceded in death by his parents, Kenneth and Juanita Smith, and his brother, Kenneth “Archie” Smith. Scott is survived by his wife Pamela Poppen Smith, daughter Nichole (Ronnie) Ortiz. sons Sean (Brooke) Smith and Jeremy Smith, sister Debby (Guy) Puckett and many other relatives.
Visitation will be Thursday, Feb. 23, at the H.K. Holland Memorial Chapel at 4 p.m., and a Celebration of Life will be on Friday, Feb. 24, at 10 a.m at Crossroads Community Church.
