Robert L. Mills
Robert L. Mills, of North Sierra View, Ridgecrest, died Feb. 8, 2017, of natural causes at High Desert Haven. He was 86.
Services were Saturday, Feb. 11, in Ridgecrest.
Robert was born June 4, 1930 in Johnstown, Colo. He worked as an electronic technician for the Department of Defense Telemetry Branch. He served in the U.S. Navy from Dec. 7, 1954, to June 6, 1958.
Bob moved to the Riverside area with his family in his teens. He was active in Gym Khana Rodeo and did odd jobs until he joined the Navy. He met the love of his life Virginia, when he walked into her parent’s restaurant for a cup of coffee. They later married in Las Vegas and just celebrated 64 years of marriage. He loved to fish and travel the world with his best friend (wife). Bob was active in Boy Scout Troop 41 with both of his sons. He was an avid beekeeper and honey maker.
Bob developed numerous patents during his carEer including the design and development of the Sidewinder rolleron stabilizing system. He also worked on the Skipper telemetry package and the Bullpup missile project, as well as the Strick Project. The family would like to thank High Desert Haven in Ridgecrest for the loving care he received. The family requests that donations be made to the Wounded Warrior Project.
He was preceded in death by Virginia Mills his wife, and survived by son Larry Mills and wife Marcia, son Don Mills and wife Sherry, daughter Jeanie Mills Rowcliffe and husband Jonathan, daughter Julie Mills-Nieto and wife Nancy and stepdaughter Sherry Paiement and husband Chris. Grandchildren are Jennifer Mills, Kristy Mills Gilger, Jared Mills, Jason Mills and wife Michelle, Kristi Barton, Kira Strickland, Rachael Rowcliffe, Anthony Rowcliffe, Bobbie Mills, Camille Nieto, Tara Paiement and Blake Paiement, plus 14 great-grandchildren.
