Elks announce scholarships
The Ridgecrest Elks Lodge announced that the national Elks foundation is accepting applications for its Most Valuable Student scholarship contest. The deadline is Nov. 30.
The Elks will award 500 four- year scholarships in addition to local, regional and state scholarships.
The highest award is $50,000 over a four-year period.
“Our local lodge will award $500 to the first-place winner in addition to about $2,500 in cash awards to other competitors,” said Jan Bennett of the local lodge.
Students of the 2016-17 graduating class of high school or its equivalent, who are citizens of the United States and residents within the jurisdiction of the B.P.O. Elks of the U.S.A., are eligible for application
The criteria include financial need, leadership, community involvement and academics. Applicants must have taken the SAT or ACT test before this coming Nov. 5. Applications may be downloaded at enf.elks.org/mvs and will be submitted online.
