Man arrested after evading officers

A 38-year-old Ridgecrest man was arrested on charges relating to felony evasion and hit and run after the suspect failed to comply with a routine traffic stop in the wee hours of the morning of June 27.

According to Ridgecrest Police Department reports, Officers Groves and Joseph were patrolling the area of East Rader Avenue when they spotted Thomas Henry Haleman driving a Cadillac with an expired registration. When officers attempted to pull him over, Haleman allegedly ran a stop sign at the corner of South Silver Ridge Street and sped away.

RPD officers reportedly pursued the driver, who eventually abandoned the vehicle and fled on foot. RPD reports that the unoccupied vehicle rolled into a utility box, causing minor damage to both the fixture and the vehicle.

Officers said they continued pursuit of Haleman on foot, eventually apprehending him in the Green Acres mobile home park.

Haleman was arrested on charges that include felony evading in a vehicle, hit and run, driving with a suspended license, resisting/obstructing/delaying a peace officer and possession of narcotics paraphernalia.

At press time, Haleman was being held in Central Receiving Facility in Bakersfield.
