Man arrested on attempted murder charge

Garry Allen McLucas, 47, of Ridgecrest, was arrested last Friday by Ridgecrest police and charged with attempted murder. According to Police Sergeant Ryan Marrone, who was on the scene, officers were called to the 500 block of North Sahara Drive just before 1:30 a.m. regarding a possible stabbing victim.

“It happened on French Street,” said Marrone. “The victim ran from his vehicle and made it to Sahara. The victim had an obvious wound on his neck, but it didn’t seem to be life-threatening. The victim seemed a little disoriented, and was taken by Liberty Ambulance to Ridge-crest Regional Hospital. After being checked out at the emergency room, the victim was released a short time later.”

According to police reports, the victim, age 30, was coherent and provided a description of the suspect. Officers located the suspect within minutes.

“We found the suspect one street over on Oasis, and arrested him,” said Marrone.

Investigation confirmed that the victim and the suspect knew one another. Apparently there had been an altercation, during which the suspect allegedly stabbed the victim once in the neck. The victim then reportedly fled to North Sahara Drive, where a passerby was asked to call the police.

“It was very cut and dried,” said Marrone. “Everything was handled very quickly.”

McLucas was booked into Bakersfield’s Central Receiving Facility, where he is being held in lieu of $525,000 bail on two felony charges. Results of his June 24 hearing were unavailable at press time.
