County park starts last phase of work

County park starts last phase of workYou may have noticed a wide stretch of raised dirt in the new section of LeRoy Jackson Park, at the corner of French Street and China Lake Boulevard. An expansion project for the county park is being done in stages, to be completed this fall.

According to Kern County Parks Planner John Laybourn, in Bakersfield, Phase 1 of the plan included the parking lot, restroom, picnic shelter and turf. Phase 2 was the landscaping along China Lake Boulevard. Phase 2-B, the last phase, will bring more walkways, native plants, benches and additional playground equipment.

“We’re excited to have it done in the fall. We think it’ll be a good feature for Ridgecrest,” said Laybourn. “There’s nothing planned after that.”

Laybourn was unable to answer questions about funding sources for the project. He referred those questions to Kern County Parks Director Robert Lerude, who is currently out of the area.

Additional information will be published in this newspaper as soon as it becomes available.
