Parole sweep nets 18 arrests

In an effort to deter criminal activity in the Indian Wells Valley, the Ridgecrest Police Department spearheaded a parole/probation compliance check on June 3 on subjects who are on active parole, probation or post-release community supervision (AB109).

The areas covered included Ridgecrest, Buttermilk Acres and Inyokern. Several of the subjects had active warrants for their arrest. Some 31 searches were conducted, resulting in 18 arrests.

The operation included a combined force of approximately 20 law enforcement officers from Ridgecrest, Arvin and Taft police departments and Kern County Probation. Local Police and Citizens Together (PACT) volunteers assisted in the operation by providing logistical support.

The suspects arrested and their charges include:

• Miles Byrd, possession of a controlled substance and drug paraphernalia

• Arianna Sullivan, possession of drug paraphernalia

• Alex Arnell, possession of drug paraphernalia

• Julio Abundis, being under the influence of a controlled substance

• Arnulfo Abundis, misdemeanor warrant for being under the influence of a controlled substance

• Kurtis Young, possession of drug paraphernalia

• Justin Speck, possession of drug paraphernalia

• Destiny Valentine, possession of drug paraphernalia

• Ricky Harris, felony violation of post release, possession of drug paraphernalia

• Brooke Walters, being under the influence of a controlled substance

• Thomas Haleman, being under the influence of a controlled substance

• Marcus Calderon, being under the influence of a controlled substance

• Veronica Ortiz, possession of prescription medication without a prescription

• Shawn Dooley, driving under the influence

• Charles Baldwin, misdemeanor warrant for furnishing alcohol to minors

• Mitchell Beachboard, being under the influence of a controlled substance

• Eugene Wheeler, misdemeanor warrant for petty theft

• Jeffrey Cornelius, misdemeanor warrant for being under the influence of a controlled substance
