10-miler raises money for athletes

10-miler raises money for athletesOver the Hill Track Club members and guests participating in the Inyokern 10 helped raise $652 for members of the Burroughs High School track and field and cross-country teams.

Race coordinators said they were pleased with the high level of participation in what they regard as the longest-running athletic event in Ridgecrest.

“Participants enjoyed refreshments and near-perfect weather, which almost seemed to provide a pardon for the event,” said OTHTC President Jason Zehendner. “Short-ly afterwards, Ridgecrest was savaged by 70 mile-per-hour gusts — the highest winds experienced this year.”

Josh Boston was the top finisher for the event, running the course in 57 minutes, 54 seconds to beat a field of more than 50 racers. Nicole Godette was the first female finisher, logging a time of 1 hour, 14 minutes, 31 seconds.

A complete list of the race results, as well as an in-depth history of the race and some of the notable accomplishments of its participants over the years, can be accessed on the front page of the club’s website, othtc.com.

On Saturday, June 7, the club will hold its annual breakfast run-walk, featuring a three-mile course in the hills southeast of Ridgecrest.

Registration will start at 6:30 a.m., with the race starting at 7 a.m. Participants will begin at the Rademacher Hills trailhead at the corner of Gateway Boulevard and Belle Vista Street.

Donations will be accepted to cover the costs. For information call Kathy Martin at 760-375-6852.
