Rose charged with murder

Jesse Peyton Rose, 20, was formally charged with murder and elder abuse in the death of Sandra McKinney in May 15 arraignment. He pled not guilty to both charges.

Deputy District Attorney Sean Daugherty and attorney Thomas Sone were both present. Rose’s next court appearance will be at a preliminary hearing May 28 at in Victorville Superior Court.

Rose is being held in custody in lieu of $1-million bail. He will be defended by a public defender.

Sandra McKinney, 71, of Red Mountain, was reported missing on April 20. A search began immediately, and her body was located 24 hours later by an aerial search team, at the bottom of a mine shaft in the Red Mountain area.

No details of her death have been released.

Rose, a neighbor of McKinney in Red Mountain, was later arrested in Las Vegas and extradited to California.

No motive or cause of death has been released, as the investigation is ongoing.
