Armstrong is ‘unsung heroine’
Kathy Armstrong, charter member of the Singing Sands Chapter of Sweet Adelines, International, was honored with the distinction of being an “Unsung Heroine” recently during regional chorus and quartet competitions.
The award is given to members nominated by their chapters for serving quietly without any recognition – usually. The award was established to recognize and honor these devoted members.
As the Singing Sands nomination paperwork explained, “Not only was she a member of the original Singing Sands Chorus — she is a charter member of the current one. She is our oldest member — 88 chronologically but very young at heart!
“She has been the chapter treasurer from the beginning. She set up a method of payment that provides for members to have their dues in escrow so that at renewal time they are already paid.
“In addition, she has been in Ridgecrest for so long that she knows practically everyone —which allows her to know just where to go and who to contact when the chorus needs a helping hand.
“It doesn’t matter what we do she is in the lead providing the knowhow and where to go in order to meet the chorus’ needs.
“Her sunny nature and enthusiasm keeps us all in good spirits.”
