Obituary: Rick Alan Bryant

Obituary: Rick Alan BryantRick Alan Bryant passed away on Feb. 28, 2014, from medical complications.

Services will be held on Saturday, March 8, at Calvary Chapel 210 E Springer Ave, Ridgecrest, at noon. A reception will follow.

Rick was born on Sept. 6, 1954, in the Ridgecrest Hospital to Kenneth and D. Madge Bryant. He weighed in at 4 lbs. 2 oz. After he graduated from Burroughs High School in 1973, he joined the Marine Corps where he obtained the rank of lance Ccorporal. He was recognized for rifle marksmanship and received a National Defense service medal.

Rick spent the next 31 years as an ordnance technician at the Point Mugu Pacific Missile Test Center.

He was married in 1986 to Elva, and became a stepfather to Brian Parra. In 1986 his son Brad Alan Bryant was born, and he and Elva had his son Matthew James Bryant in 1991.

Rick spent his spare time camping with his family, coaching Little League, and serving as assistant Boy Scout leader. He helped all three of his boys obtain their rank of Eagle Scout.

He was remembered for being an amazing handyman who could fix anything and often did so for friends and family. One Christmas, he spent his time putting up Christmas decorations for people who were physically unable to do it themselves. Rick was never shy and made friend with everyone. There was nothing needed, that he did not try to provide. There was never a stranger in his life — just people he had yet to meet.

Rick is survived by his grandmother, Nana Poo (Verna Tucker) of Ridgecrest; father Ken Bryant and stepmother Shirley of Ridgecrest; stepson, Brian Parra, stepdaughter-in-law and grandchildren; son Bradley Bryant and daughter-in-law Sierra, and grandchildren, Austin and Kirra of Camarillo; youngest son Matthew Bryant of Oxnard; sister Debi and brother-in-law Chris Grauert of Fairfax, Va., and nephews Christopher and David; sister Kathy and brother-in-law John Seals of Ridgecrest, and nephews Kevin and Owen; and sister Susan and brother-in-law Mike Tianen of Vancouver, Wash., and nephew K. Scott and Neice Danika, along with aunts, uncles and cousins. Rick was predeceased by his mother, D. Madge Bryant, in 1995.
